  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee did not attend the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony in Ayodhya because they were afraid of losing the support of “infiltrators” in West Bengal.

Addressing a public meeting at Memari in the East Burdwan district, Shah appealed to the people to elect Narendra Modi as the prime minister again so the Centre could take bold decisions like scrapping Article 370 of the Constitution, which had bestowed a special status on the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

“For the last 70 years, Congress, Left and the TMC didn’t resolve the Ram Mandir issue. You gave Modi ji 18 seats from Bengal (in 2019), and in the last five years, he not only won the Ram Mandir case but did the ‘bhumi puja’ and also erected the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. An invitation was sent to Mamata Didi and bhatija (nephew) so they could attend the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. However, they didn’t go in fear of infiltrators here,” said Shah, claiming that “infiltrators” are TMC’s vote bank in Bengal.

The consecration of the Ram Mandir was held in Ayodhya on January 22, more than four years after the Supreme Court ordered the setting up of a trust to construct the temple at the disputed site of the Babri Masjid, which was demolished in 1992.

Shah stated that the voters will have to choose between dynastic politics and Ram Rajya in the Lok Sabha elections. “In this election, you have to decide whether you want parivarvaad (dynasty politics) in the country or Ram Rajya. Do you want to elect bhatija as the chief minister of Bengal? In this election you have to elect Modi ji as the prime minister again. So that free medical treatment worth Rs 5 lakh (under Ayushman Bharat Yojana) will be available to the people,” said Shah.

Shah also assured that the perpetrators of violence against women in Sandeshkhali would be brought to justice. “The TMC promised a government of maa, mati and manush. But after coming to power, it has become a government of mullah, madrasa and mafia,” he added.

The BJP also slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata for opposing the probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (EDI) in the state.

“Mamata didi says CBI and ED conducts raids in Bengal. But why were crores of cash recovered from the houses of your ministers? Rs 51 crore was recovered from the house of one minister. Shouldn’t they be put behind bars? Mamata didi, you can scream and shout as much as you want, but those who have looted the money of the poor will be sent to jail,” said Shah.

He criticised Mamata for opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and promised to stop infiltration in Bengal like the BJP claimed to have did in Assam.

Meanwhile, Shah claimed that both Mamata and Abhishek, the MP from Diamond Harbour, are scared of the BJP. As a result, TMC workers are not allowing BJP workers to use private vehicles and forcing hotels to cancel their bookings, he alleged.

“Our government will find out and put behind bars those who killed our party workers in Bengal. Here, false cases were lodged against innocent BJO workers. The court is granting them relief. Have some shame Mamata didi. The writing is on the wall,” he said.
