  • The parents of a woman who is thought to have died after getting a Covishield shot in July 2021, have now chosen to sue its manufacturer Serum Institute of India (SII). The incident happened after the British pharma AstraZeneca that sold the vaccination, said that said in a court that the injection could cause uncommon rare side effects including blood clots coupled with low platelet count. Venugopalan Govindan’s daughter Karunya passed away in July 2021 right after getting vaccinated by Covishield. However, the national committee set up by the government noted saying that there was insufficient evidence to prove the vaccine cause her untimely demise. The pharma company has faced further legal actions as a few more parents had blamed the administration and moved to court for their children’s death. As AstraZeneca continues to face class action lawsuit in the UK, it halted the administration of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine owing to safety concerns. However, several studies have also shown its efficacy in combating covid-19.
