Kolkata: Bengal lost a senior health official, who was heading a medical college, to Covid-19 on Thursday. Hasi Dasgupta, 57, principal of the College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital (CMSDH) — who had attended work till Tuesday — died at Medical College Hospital Kolkata (MCHK), a day after she was diagnosed with Covid. According to sources, Dasgupta was admitted at CMSDH on Wednesday morning with complaints of fever and respiratory distress. A known diabetic patient, doctors decided to shift her to MCHK where she was admitted at the critical care unit.
“She was shifted to MCHK on Wednesday evening which is a tertiary level Covid hospital where she could get the attention of all specialists including cardiologists, nephrologists and neurologists. Despite all our effort we lost her,” said a senior health department official. Dasgupta passed away on Thursday evening.
Sources said the she had been suffering from a mild fever for a few days. On Wednesday, she came all the way to the hospital from her Golf Green residence along with her husband Dinen Saha, also a doctor. Both tested positive to the infection. Saha, who is attached with the radiology department at SSKM Hospital is now undergoing treatment for Covid at MCHK. Sources said he is stable and does not need any critical care support.
“She was thoroughly professional and very committed to her work. She was also extremely popular with students. We are shocked and saddened to lose such a warm human being,” said Manas Gumta, head of general surgery at COMSDH.
