HC rejects review of CAG Amphan order
Times of India, 05 December 2020
Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Friday refused to review its earlier order directing the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) to probe allegations of irregularities in the distribution of relief after Cyclone Amphan ravaged Bengal.
The division bench of Chief Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice Arijit Banerjee had directed CAG to intervene after going through a PIL in which it had been alleged that state agencies had distributed relief selectively.
On Friday, advocate-general Kishore Dutta informed the court that the state wanted to make some submissions and prayed that the bench review its order for a CAG probe in the matter. The bench was not convinced and observed that it had passed the order after careful perusal. The state may move an appeal in a higher court, it observed.
