KOLKATA: A middle-aged Baranagar homemaker, who ran in a ball of fire and collapsed in front of a neighbour’s door on Sunday, died at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Thursday. Cops on Thursday arrested the victim’s sister-in-law for allegedly setting the victim, Shyamali Das, on fire with kerosene and burning her to death during an argument. Cops are looking for others family members of the accused, Smita Das, who had gone into hiding after the news of Shyamali’s death arrived. According to locals, the two Das brothers own an ancestral house on a three-cottah plot at Baranagar’s Lakeview Park. “Both families used to engage in bitter battle over property dispute. Sometimes, neighbours, too, intervened to settle the matter,” said a local. “Both the families also complained to police against each other but they continued with the brawl till late at night,” a local woman said. The situation took a turn for the worse on Sunday when the two got into an argument. “Both the husbands weren’t at the home when the two homemakers scuffled with each other during an altercation over property dispute. Suddenly, we saw the eldest housewife running on the street in a ball of fire,” a neighbour said. Download The Times of India News App for Latest City News.
