  • KOLKATA: Trinamool Basirhat MP Nusrat Jahan was questioned by ED, in connection with alleged flat sale fraud, for nearly 6 hours at the Salt Lake CGO Complex on Tuesday. "I have answered every question they asked," she said while leaving the ED office.

The agency may summon the MP again after questioning two other directors of 7 Sense Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. Jahan, who was also a director, resigned from the company in March 2017.

Jahan arrived at the agency's office at 10.43am on Tuesday - 30 minutes before schedule - bringing with her documents ED had asked for.

ED initiated the ECIR after 429 investors alleged that Rs 24 crore deposited by them for delivery of flats in Rajarhat had been moved to other bank accounts, including that of the directors and their families.

Jahan had earlier said she had nothing to do with the purported transactions. On Tuesday, she told investigators that she did not know about the investors being duped. She also said she had taken a loan of Rs 1.16 crore from the company and repaid the amount and the interest component within two months of her resignation. According to ED sources, Jahan produced documents towards a payment of Rs 1.4 crore to the firm. The MP also said she did not hold a single share in the company.

According to sources, Jahan produced documents on her earnings since 2013-14. Between 2013-14 and 2017-18, her total income was Rs 1.14 crore. In 2019, her liability towards two financial institutions was Rs 1.68 crore. Investigators wanted to know why she took the loan from the company while holding the post of director.

The agency also asked the MP about the source of funds for her Palm Avenue property. She was also asked whether any of her relatives were involved in the firm.

After leaving the ED office, Jahan went to perform puja at a temple near Behala.
