No to plastic decoration: Salt Lake pandals go green

KOLKATA: Several puja committees in Salt Lake have abandoned use of single-use plastic or thermocol for decoration and opted for LED lights. "The pandal decoration is plastic free and paints used are made of organic compounds. Over 80% of the lighting is done using energy efficient LED lamps and fixtures," said Salt Lake BE West puja organisers.
The theme for Salt Lake CE Block is environment. "The surrounding has been decorated with trees. Jute and bamboo products have been used for the pandal," said puja committee president Debashis Sen. Salt Lake BA Block puja committee, too, has abandoned plastic.
