  • Six women were beaten up by a group of people in Bidhannagar North thana area on Monday night when they wanted to attend nature’s call, police said.

All the women are in the age group of 19-24 years.

According to the complainant, who is the mother of one of the young women, all the six were beaten with rods and have been hospitalised.

As per the complaint lodged with the police, the incident took place when one of the six women was looking for a washroom near a dhaba on EM Bypass as the car in which they were travelling was being refuelled.

They were speaking about finding the washroom, when a woman resident of the area, who allegedly listened to their conversation, started shouting and abusing them. As the group of young women entered into a verbal fight with her, the husband and other male members from a slum behind the dhaba came out and started beating up the group of young women.

According to the complaint, the men were drunk and hit the young women with rods and sticks.

While police remained tight lipped over the incident, a source in Bidhannagar Police, on the condition of anonymity, said, ” We have received two complaints from both the sides. We are probing the allegations levelled by both the sides.”
