Kolkata: A 25-year-old woman with earphones plugged in died after being run over by an express train while she was crossing the railway tracks at Thakurnagar railway station on Sealdah-Bongaon section in North 24-Parganas on Thursday around 8.30am.
According to local sources, the woman identified as Sharmila Pramanik, a resident of Chandpara’s Dhakuria and an employee of a diagnostic centre, was run over by the Kolkata-Khulna Bandhan Express while she was crossing the railway tracks on her way to work engrossed on her mobile phone.
The railway staff and fellow commuters rushed her to Bongaon Jibaban Ratan Dhar Subdivisional Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
