Kolkata: KMC has set a November 21 deadline for puja organizers to remove Durga Puja pandal structures from parks and hoardings, banners and flexes from roads.
Unhappy with a section of puja committees, mayor Firhad Hakim on Saturday said post deadline, KMC would remove the bamboo structures but seize the materials, which would not be returned to decorators.
Hakim was particularly dissatisfied with the committees that were yet to dismantle pandals, preventing residents from using the parks. “We will wait for a couple of days and then, our KMC men will remove the structures. We will ask the puja organizers to pay for it,” said Hakim.
Jagat Mukherjee Park in Bagbazar has remained shut for over a month. Bagbazar resident Rajat Sen, a septuagenarian, on Saturday expressed his dismay over the delay.
Civic officials are also annoyed with bamboos being dumped on roads and the structures, where ads were mounted during puja, left untouched. The structures are yet to be removed in areas like Ultadanga, Narkeldanga, Sarat Bose Road, Asutosh Mukherjee Road and Golf Green among others.
