BARASAT/KOLKATA: The decomposed bodies of four family members were discovered in their apartment in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as 52-year-old Brindaban Karmakar, a cloth merchant, his wife Debasree Karmakar, in her forties, their 17-year-old daughter Debaleena, and eight-year-old son Utsaha. The bodies were found in the closed apartment on M S Mukherjee Road in the Khardah area under Barrackpore Police Commissionerate.
Police suspect that the man murdered his family members by poisoning them and then died by suicide. The man's body was found hanging from the ceiling, while the other three bodies were discovered in different areas of the flat. A suicide note was found, stating that the man took the extreme step because he couldn't bear his wife's alleged extra-marital affair.
Local residents alerted the police after detecting a foul smell from the apartment. The bolted door had to be forcibly opened, leading to the discovery. A forensic team visited the site, and further investigation is underway.
