  • A man in Canning in South 24 Parganas district allegedly poisoned the cold drinks of her daughters, leading to the death of one, police said, adding that he was unhappy for having four daughters.

The daughters are between eight to 14 years old.

While one daughter did not drink the poisoned beverage, two of the three who consumed the beverage are critical and admitted to a Kolkata hospital. The deceased girl was 13 years old.

Police have arrested 34-year-old Aminuddin Sardar for the murder of his daughter.

“Prima facie, he poisoned the cold drink of his four daughters with the intention to kill them,” said a police officer, adding that he used to fight with his wife daily for giving birth to four daughters and would also assault her.

The couple also have a seven-year-old son.

According to the police, Sardar picked up his four daughters from the local madrasa on November 10 and took them to a market on the pretext of shopping winter clothes for them. There, he poisoned the cold drinks that he bought for his daughter.

After a while, the three daughters, who had consumed the cold drinks, started to vomit and were taken to the Canning Divisional Hospital.
