State spent ₹700 cr on pilgrim centres, ₹165 cr on Kalighat: CM

Kolkata: The state government had spent Rs 700 crore for the redevelopment of pilgrim centres in Bengal, including the heritage Kalighat temple and all the Sati peeths, which would be put on a tourism circuit, said chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
She pointed out that the state was spending Rs 165 crore on the revamp of the Kalighat temple, and the Reliance group Rs 35 crore on the temple’s golden crown. The Kalighat plan includes renovation of the temple’s sanctum sanctorum and a major facelift of the precinct, including the heritage structures.
Listing out the temple plans of Bengal, the CM said Jagannath Dham, being built by Hidco near Digha, was nearing completion and also, the state had provided 700 acres to Iskcon for a new temple. Besides, temple complexes and the surroundings were being revamped in Tarapith, Nalhati, Tarakeshwar, Mahesh, Kachua, Onkarnath, Jalpesh, Madan Mohan, and Fullhara. In Varanasi, too, a temple under the control of the state, would be renovated, the CM said.
