  • KOLKATA: Two cops, posing as insurance agents, made multiple visits to the house of an absconder at Tiljala - against whom an arrest warrant was issued 10 years after his alleged involvement in an abduction case - and nabbed the accused, Raju Chowdhury (34).

The cops convinced his family members that a Rs 5 lakh policy, which the accused had bought a few years ago, had matured, and a final KYC verification was needed. In anticipation of a financial gain, the accused turned up before the "insurance agents" and landed in the police net. In 2010, Chowdhury was charged by Regent Park police, then under Bengal Police, in an abduction case.

A team was formed under sub-inspector Krishna Dey. "The team came to know that he lived in a joint family in the area. However, he was seldom found at home as he was aware that cops might come looking for him. So, cops had to visit his house several times," said an officer.

The accused was produced in the court and remanded in judicial custody.
