• Noise protest: 18-year-old boy stabbed to death in Bengal

  • HOWRAH: An 18-year-old boy in Uluberia was stabbed to death after his elder brother had objected to two locals riding "noisy" bikes. The incident took place at Chengail, Uluberia around 2.30am on Friday.

    The two bikers have been arrested.

    Victim Bapan Manna's brother and his friend had protested against two locals, Akash Jana and Sagar Jana, riding their bikes through the Kalabagan area in Chengail noisily late on Thursday.The altercation snowballed into a fight, but it was eventually resolved, police said.

    But that night, when Bapan's brother did not return home till late, he went out around 2.30am, searching for him. Akash and Sagar reportedly spotted him on the road alone and stabbed him with a knife. Bapan was taken to Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Govt Medical College and Hospital, where he died of his injuries shortly later. Bapan's body has been sent for post-mortem.

    Following a raid on the area, cops from the Uluberia police station arrested Akash and Sagar, who will be produced in an Uluberia court on Saturday.

    Local councillor Shekh Selim said the area had been experiencing unrest for a long time. Despite drawing the administration's attention, no action had been taken, he said, demanding strict punishment for the two.
