  • KOLKATA: A 38-year-old building material supplier-cum-cloth trader was found dead at an abandoned ice factory, located around 50 metres from his residence, on BB Ghosh Sarani at Muraripukur in Maniktala on Friday morning. Cops said the victim, Amit Ram, carried wounds on the back of his head.

The victim is survived by his wife and two children.

His wife Moumita alleged that he was murdered as there was no reason for him to die by suicide. Cops said they were yet to receive any formal complaint in this regard.

“Prima facie, it seems that the death was due to a fall from height. We are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact reason behind his death,” said an officer. A neighbour called the police, informing them about Ram lying in the factory.

According to the police, Ram had been depressed following the death of his father last year and he had taken to drinking. “We found he had consumed alcohol at three spots before his death. He might have climbed up the building and fallen from the third-floor,” said the officer.
