The Strait Times, published from Singapore, carried the following advertisements on this day.
The first one was about a ship bound for Calcutta.
“FOR CALCUTTA. (Touching at Pinang.) The Fire Queen to leave immediately after the 1st. Sales of Opium may be expected here about 18th December, and will leave for Calcutta on or about the 22nd. for freight or passage apply to THOS. O. CRANE,” it said.
The second was related to an insurance agency.
“Reliance Marine Insurance Office.
The undersigned has been appointed AGENT at Singapore for the RELIANCE MARINE INSURANCE OFFICE at Calcutta and is prepared to grant policies on Goods, payable in London, China, Madras, Bombay and Calcutta. P. JOAQUIM.”
