  • KOLKATA: The 48-year-old woman, who had tested positive for Covid after landing in Kolkata from Australia on Monday, was finally discharged from Infectious Diseases and Beliaghata General (IDBG) Hospital on Friday after she tested negative.

The Perth resident straightaway headed for Gaya to attend a religious discourse by the Dalai Lama, the main objective of her travel plan.

The woman being a passport-holder of both Australia and the UK, a health department official said the British High Commission thanked Swasthya Bhawan officials for the care provided her. Though not part of protocol, health officials sent her samples for Covid test every day so that the moment she tested negative, she could leave for Bodh Gaya.

"We immediately informed Swasthya Bhawan about her negative report from NICED and were told to discharge her. We are relieved she can make it to the discourse that will be on till Sunday," said Kausik Chaudhuri, Covid nodal officer at ID Hospital.
