• Empowering Kanyashreegirls through skill development

  • To empower and develop social awareness among the Kanyashree girls, innovative steps are being taken by the district magistrate Dr P Deepap Priya.

    An agreement is on the way between the district schools and Bethune college to train and involve Kanyashree girls in debates related to selfawareness, awareness of problems in the society, the use of hidden talent and skill towards creativity.

    On an experimental basis, assistant professor of history department of Bethune college Sanjukta Roy and other professors conducted debate and quizzes at Serampore Girls High School on many issues and were amazed to find the girls’ performance encouraging and promising towards self-upliftment and betterment. The district magistrate, Dr P Deepap Priya, recently at a meeting said, “The Kanyashree beneficiary scheme initiated by the state chief minister Mamata Banerjee have won world recognition for encouraging girls towards education and preventing early marriages.The main aim of the scheme is towards upliftment and betterment of girls in the society, specially school and college girls.

    “An agreement is on the anvil with Bethune college (Bethune college is well known for its debate club) and the schools from the district. In the first phase, five schools will be selected. Sub-division wise, a forum or platform is being created for the Kanyashree girls to motivate and encourage girls towards using their unexplored skills and talent towards creativity. There is no doubt a Kanyashree girl, even from a rural background, can compete with the challenges that lies ahead of her. They are sure to shine in their life ahead and efficiently serve the nation
