  • Trinamul national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee held his public rally at Anandapur High School Ground at Kehspur in West Midnapore. Thanking the bulging turnout of supporters, Abhishek gave a stern message to the party local leaders and in general that the party will not tolerate any infighting and corruption, which has already brought disrepute to the ruling party.

He said that he has got news that party leaders have already started declaring that they will give candidates for the panchayat election. He asserted that no block president or district president will decide on the candidates.

The New Trinamul: The youth leader, who is also an MP, projected the much-touted model of "new Trinamul".

"We will mould the party the way the people want to see it. Only those who will be certified by the common people will be the candidates for the panchayat polls. I'm telling you that only those who work with all humility for the party will get tickets in the next panchayat election."

Citing examples of his "new Trinamul" mascots, Sk Hasimuddin and Manju Dalbera and her husband Abhijit Dalbera, Abhishek said such people are likely to be party candidates for panchayat polls.

For Sk Hasimuddin, Abhishek said, "He is not into party politics. He has refused to take money under the awas yojana. His justification is, the government will give me Rs 1.3L for it and he will have to further spend Rs 3 lakh to complete it. He does not want to use it for the house. Instead, he will use the money to arrange his daughter's marriage."

Manju is a gram panchayat member from Keshpur and Abhijit is block sabhapati of TMC. Abhijit Dalbera's mother was listed as a beneficiary of awas yojana but Manju refused to take the benefit on the grounds that she is a panchayat member, said Abhishek. "The couple too has to raise their son and daughters and they need money for that. If they spend money on the house they will find it hard to educate them," he said.

Abhishek, the Sentinel: Taking on the mantle of a guard he said, "I'm guarding the party. I am the paharadar (guard). I'm warning the leaders who are fighting within themselves. I'm giving a month's time. You cannot bring disrepute to the party. I'm urging the people to note down the Ek Dake Abhishek phone number and complain to me directly if they have any grievances. I'm keeping an invisible eye on the happenings within the party."

BJP-led Centre at fault: Abhishek said Centre has withheld the money due to the state because BJP lost in Bengal. In the Bangla Awas Yojana, over 11 lakh registered people are yet to get their share of funds. The state sent the names of eligible beneficiaries, but we are yet to be given the funds from the BJP-led Centre. Instead, BJP leaders from Delhi sent a "central team" to monitor the process of identifying beneficiaries in a bid to catch mistakes.
