  • Kolkata: The Niti Aayog on Sunday completed the drone survey for the six historical sites in Nadia, including the royal palace at Krishnanagar, Ganga ghat at Nabadwip and the birthplace of the poet Krittibas Ojha. The sites will be restored and will eventually be developed as tourist spots.

BJP’s Ranaghat MP Jagannath Sarkar had earlier made a plea with the Prime Minister’s Office to develop the historical sites in Nadia.“The Niti Aayog was asked to carry out a survey of these places. These sites have been lying in neglect for long. I asked the PMO to intervene to restore the sites and develop them as a tourist destination. This will not only restore the cultural heritage of the state, but will help in boosting the local economy through development as a tourist destination,” Sarkar said.

“The project will be submitted through the Niti Aayog. It will also help in boosting the market for local handloom and handicraft. Many of the terracotta works need immediate restoration. The central govt already has a scheme for promoting local handicraft. Apart from that the govt might think of setting up some more tourist attractions around these sites. They will decide on the expenses after the survey is over,” Sarkar added.
