  • Heavy rainfall is likely to occur across West Bengal from Friday, owing to strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department said on Thursday.

    One or two locations along the coastline are most likely to expect rain accompanied with thunderstorms, gusty winds blowing at a speed of 30-40 km/ph, the weather office said.

    The Met department stated that widespread rain with isolated downpour, is likely over the districts of north Bengal for the next five days.

    Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Coochbehar are most likely to receive heavy rainfall (7-11 cm), it said.

    Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected over the districts of south Bengal, including South 24 Parganas and Medinipur till Sunday due to the strong southwesterly winds, the weather office said.

    Meanwhile, Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia are likely to receive light to moderate rain than the remaining areas.
