• NKDA to spend 13.7L to clear weeds, shrubs

  • Kolkata: New Town Development Authority has floated a Rs 13.7 lakh tender to clear outgrowths in Action Area II, including parthenium. It wants to scrub out these weeds within the next six months.

    Empty land stretches of Action Area II have become breeding grounds for the weeds, which is known to trigger allergies, including bronchitis, an official said.For the past couple of years, the weeds are removed before the monsoons when it grows rapidly. This year, this will take till the year-end.

    “Along with parthenium, bushes and plants will also be removed from the base,” an official said, adding, “Due to the extensive nature of the work, external agencies will be roped in.” It is also exploring long-term solution to the parthenium problem after repeated complaints by locals.
