  • Kolkata: Central Kolkata traffic guards on Monday resumed their drive against illegal parking by clamping and towing of vehicles. However, the cops ensured that the process was followed under three specific conditions.

“We clamped only those vehicles that were parked on the pavement. This too was done after sufficient time and repeated warnings. All the vehicles that got clamped turned out to be two-wheelers.The towing took place for only those vehicles that were parked perpendicular to the carriageway. Three, we also challaned vehicles for double-lane parking on the same side of a road. A few van pullers who parked their three-wheelers on the opposite flank of the authorized parking zone too have been warned,” said an officer from Howrah Bridge Traffic Guard.

The cops stated that everyone has been warned not to make the same mistakes again. “This drive on Kalakar Street, MG Road, KK Tagore Street or Brabourne Road has now entered the fourth day. We are recording the registration number of vehicles that violated parking norms. From Tuesday or Wednesday, we will tow away vehicles of repeat violators,” said an officer.

In the other part of central Kolkata, the Park Circus, East and South traffic guards have also decided to keep tabs on regular violators. “While we have slapped Rs 500 fine on violators so far, we are slapping the multiple offence sections on repeat offenders who have to shell out Rs 1,500,” said a senior police officer.
