  • Kolkata: A 30-year-old history-sheeter, Milan Singh, was shot dead while having dinner at a friend’s shack outside Kalna railway station in East Burdwan on Monday night. Police said two bike-borne assailants fired two rounds at Singh, who was a resident of Rabindranagar, Chinsurah in Hooghly but had been staying near Kalna railway station for the past two months.

Witnesses said that the incident occurred around 9 pm on Monday, when Singh was at Swapan Majhi’s shop, where he was selling food. The bike-borne assailants shot Singh twice in the head, killing him on the spot. Locals informed the cops and Singh’s body was taken to Kalna Hospital for post-mortem.

A cop said, “The gunmen fled the scene and a probe has been initiated.”

According to cops , Singh was a part of the gang led by Toton Biswas of Rabindranagar. On Aug 6, 2022, while Toton was in police custody and being taken for a medical check-up at Imambara Hospital, armed goons attempted to kill him. Toton narrowly escaped the attack. The Chandannagar Police later arrested the accused, Babu Pal, and his associates from another state. Due to his involvement in criminal activities, Toton had several enemies.

Singh had been imprisoned multiple times after he joined Toton’s gang. Earlier, he used to work as a labourer and sold vegetables in the area. Singh moved to Kalna after he was released on bail a few months ago.

Singh’s aunt Maya Mondal said, “His daughter woke me up and informed me that he was murdered. The family left for Kalna after getting the information.”
