Entally Mkt, space below Park Street flyover: Spots for new parking lots

Kolkata: Kolkata Traffic Police has decided to collaborate with Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to establish new parking lots across the city in a bid to meet the growing demand for additional parking spaces.
Each traffic guard has also been tasked with identifying potential locations for multi-level parking lots near commercial areas. CM Mamata Banerjee had called for the development of such parking lots to solve the crunch in parking space.
Some traffic guards have already pinpointed key spots for the development of these parking facilities.For the heavily congested Gariahat area, the Southeast Traffic Guard has suggested a multi-level parking lot be set up by KMC at the Gariahat tram depot. Additionally, the space under Park Street flyover has been identified for 20 odd parking slots opposite the Kailash Building on Chowringhee Road.
In the vicinity of Sealdah, Park Circus guard has requested a parking lot near Entally Market, utilizing a KMDA plot currently used by KMC. The Shyambazar guard has identified a location on both sides of APC Road, north of Khanna crossing, towards Shyambazar. Jorabagan traffic guard has proposed a few bylanes where residents’ cars are parked be used to accommodate commercial vehicles as well. This includes Hula Shia Lane at Malapara that can cater to the parking requirement of Posta.
While each guard is expected to submit their plans this week, Lalbazar will finalize the list after a second review before approaching KMC. The proposed spaces have been selected based on parking demand, potential obstruction to traffic movement, and KMC’s access to the land.
