  • Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday ordered Bengal chief secretary BP Gopalika to respond within three weeks to the CBI report and sanction the prosecution of govt employees in custody regarding the money-for-job scam. A division bench comprising justices Arijit Banerjee and Apurba Sinha Ray directed the chief secretary to respond promptly, noting that a previous order on May 7 had gone unheeded.“Already two months have gone by. We are granting the chief secretary another three weeks’ time. We will have to draw some kind of inference if he fails to comply,” Justice Banerjee observed.

However, the HC decoupled the matter from the pending bail pleas, scheduling a hearing for June 12. The court offered CBI counsel Dhiraj Trivedi the opportunity to argue for prioritising the sanction issue before hearing the bail applications.
