• Cop circular to fight lynching menace

  • Kolkata: Following the back-to-back cases of lynching, ADG (law and order) Manoj Verma on Wednesday issued a circular instructing the use of civic volunteers and rural police to gather inputs for prompt police action. The circular emphasized the need to raise public awareness as incidents of lynching continue to increase.

    It emphasized the need for effective measures to prevent the spread of rumors that can incite violence and lead to lynching.The circular also highlighted the importance of raising awareness through social media.

    Police officers were instructed to monitor social media round the clock so that more effective action can be taken against the accused. It also asked to use the local clubs for gathering information and spread awareness. The aim was to educate people about the dangers of lynching.

    Verma also stated that there is another issue of dacoity in the jewellery shops and these dacoits need to be dealt with strictly. He asked to coordinate with the Jharkhand and Bihar police and all stakeholders are to be involved in intelligence gathering. He also asked police officers to take action against illegal firearms and explosives and take measures to stop crime against women.
