According to the police, the two who are residents of South 24 Parganas district, had checked into the guest house in the afternoon and the incident took place at around 5 pm when the youth opened fire at the girl inside their room, on the third floor of the guest house.

While the woman was shot in her abdomen, she informed at the guest house reception that the youth had injured himself through bullet shot in the abdomen, the police said in a statement.  “Subsequently, another gunshot sound was heard from inside the guest house and it was found that the boy had committed suicide by self inflicting gun shot injury in his head,” the statement further said.

The girl has been admitted to a nearby private hospital where she is undergoing treatment, the police officer said, adding that the man was declared “brought dead” by the doctors.

“Circumstantial evidence shows that they could be in a relationship which appeared to have been deteriorating. Matter is in primary stage and probe is on to look into the motive,” police said.
