GKB joins hands with Widex to give audiology services

Kolkata: GKB Opticals has collaborated with Widex, a Denmark-based hearing aid manufacturer, to provide ophthalmic and audiology services under one roof.
The eyewear retailer is also planning to invest Rs 17-20 crore in refurbishing its stores across Kolkata.
Priyanka Gupta, director of brands at GKB Opticals, said, “In the West, optical stores sell hearing aids and we are introducing this global trend in India.With this collaboration, we are bringing hearing and eyecare solutions under one roof. We have over 90 stores across the country. As of now, the eyecare and hearing services will be available at our store on Rash Behari Avenue in Kolkata and five other stores in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai.”
“GKB Opticals constitutes about 30%-35% of the eyewear market in the city. About Rs 100 crore investment is on the cards for expansion as we plan to open 130 new stores in the country by next year,” said Ajay Mishra, GKB VP, Sales and Operations. “We are planning to upgrade stores in Kolkata. We have introduced a brand, Eyelab, in Kolkata. While one store is already operating in South City Mall, another store is coming up on BT Road,” said Sumit Dutta, GKB COO.
