• 2 die in bike accident near Sampriti flyover

  • Kolkata: Two men died in a motorcycle accident near Maheshtala Sampriti flyover on Wednesday when the duo was travelling from Batanagar towards Jinjira Bazar. Police said they were drunk and riding at high speed without helmets.

    The biker lost control of the vehicle near Rampur bumper and collided with the flyover guard wall. Both riders were knocked down and left lying on the road in a critical condition, covered in blood.An anonymous caller informed cops about the accident.

    Cops from Maheshtala police station and Jinjira Bazar outpost rushed the injured to Vidyasagar Hospital. One of the victims, identified as Rahul Ball (21), was declared dead on arrival. The pillion rider, Pratap Mandal (30), was shifted to SSKM Hospital where he succumbed to injuries despite receiving trauma care. Both were residents of Parnasree.

    Local residents said the two were friends and were known for engaging in reckless riding. The motorcycle and the riders’ shoes were found scattered at a distance of about 20 feet from the accident site, indicating the severity of the impact.
