Float tenders for Gariahat parking lots: KP to KMC

Kolkata: Kolkata Traffic Police has written to KMC to try and solve the parking issues at Gariahat-Deshapriya Park. The cops have asked the civic body to hold tenders for at least three spots — the space below Gariahat flyover, Hindustan Park and Lake Road — where the contracts for parking fee collection have expired. This is the third time in as many months that police have made this appeal.
“Those who have been appointed by KMC have rarely been involved in irregularities.Since there is not one agency that has been made accountable, a few outsiders try to mint the situation for which the genuine parking attendants earn a bad name,” claimed an officer. Sources said that since there was severe attrition among parking attendants, the cops were finding it even more difficult to track them.
Sources in Southeast traffic guard, Gariahat Police and Lake Police stated that they had so far arrested three persons for trying to extort money through parking in the past three months.
