  • KOLKATA: In protest against ongoing controversy over medical entrance exams and UGC-NET exams, a protest week observed by the All India Save Education Committee from June 27 to July 4 following an online protest meeting held on Thursday night where more than 10,000 people from across the country joined.

At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Tarun Kanti Naskar, General Secretary of the All India Save Education Committee, proposed to abolish the 'National Testing Agency' (NTA) for the huge corruption in the education sector, and to reinstate the state-level medical entrance exams.

In the meeting he proposed to cancel the results of the NEET-UG and conduct a fresh exam and demanded the resignation of the Union Education Minister who is trying to cover up the corruption.

Former JNU professor and eminent economist Arun Kumar said that the current NEET corruption is a product of the present education system.

This corruption has now taken an institutional form. He further stated that it is unfortunate that the teacher-student relationship has been commercialized and mechanized.

Merit has been sidelined, education has become very expensive, and as a result, children from poor families are being deprived of medical and engineering education. The government must take full responsibility for education.

Former IIT Mumbai professor and prominent social activist Ram Puniyani said that to eliminate this corruption, the coaching system must be completely shut down.

Former Vice-Chancellor Professor L. Jawahar Nesan said that the NTA is protecting the interests of a section of medical education businessmen instead of protecting student’s interests. Former President of the Gujarat Sahitya Academy, Prakash N. Shah, demanded for revoking the National Education Policy.
