The viral video clip shows the purported pre-wedding celebrations of Burdwan-I BDO Rajneesh Kumar Yadav at the Panchayat Samiti office. He is seen touching the feet of TMC block president and chairperson of Burdwan Development Board Kakoli Gupta, and seeking her blessings. The BDO, who is also greeted with garlands by people in attendance, is seen having a feast in the purported video.

As soon as the pictures and the video of the ceremony came to light, there was an uproar in the district. The Opposition leaders criticized it and questioned whether such activity is allowed inside the government offices.

“This incident of Purba Bardhaman district isn’t an exception,” said BJP MLA and Leader of the Opposition in Assembly Suvendu Adhikari. “Pre-wedding festivities of Burdwan-I BDO, organised by the Block TMC Leadership within the Panchayat Samiti Office. The officer could be seen touching the feet of the TMC Leader, seeking blessings,” Adhikari posted on X.

The BDO, however, said that he took blessings from the TMC leader as she is elder to him.

“Kakoli Gupta is a senior person, and is like a mother to me. So, I bowed to her,” Yadav said.

He also claimed that the ceremony did not take place inside a government office.

The TMC leader, however, admitted that the ceremony took place inside a government premises.  “The event took place in a government place. The event was organised in the panchayat office next to the BDO office. It was organised by our young boys,” the TMC leader said.
