• Take expert help in OMR probe: HC

  • Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Friday directed CBI to take every step possible in the investigation into alleged tampering of OMR sheets and data transfer from the main server of the 2014 Teacher Eligibility Test.

Justice Rajasekhar Mantha issued the direction after taking on record CBI’s progress report in the probe and deeming it “not satisfactory”.

The single bench directed the agency to take expert help from corporate bodies such as IBM, TCS and Wipro along with govt IT companies, as well as ethical hackers in India and abroad.

Justice Mantha told West Bengal Board of Primary Education to bear the expenses for the exercise.

“It is better that you take help from corporate bodies along with govt companies, if need be,” Justice Mantha said to the CBI counsel, adding: “The court is not willing to take legal steps without ascertaining the technical aspect of the matter.”

“How many times has the OMR data stored in the first server been transferred? Has the server data been edited? If so, how many times did it happen? The court wants a satisfactory answer to all these,” he said.

The court directed CBI to look into all these aspects and submit a progress report within seven weeks.

The order relates to 43 cases filed in the matter of Shantanu Shit versus the state with regard to recruitment in primary schools.
