• Cops keep Behala diversions ‘dynamic’

  • Kolkata: The Southwest Guard of Kolkata Traffic Police, which has been diverting all vehicles on Diamond Harbour Road from the Mominpore-end towards the Majherhat bridge via Lal Batti-Burdwan Road in the morning office hours, has decided to keep the process “dynamic and flexible”.

Instead of the usual 9 am -11.30 am diversions, police said they might start the process from 8.30 am and continue till noon if required.“The converse can happen too when we stop the one-way earlier in case of traffic pressure or breakdowns on Alipore Road-Burdwan Road. The school pressure at Lal Batti is another deciding factor,” said an officer.

The decision, claimed Lalbazar, was taken to ensure that the heavy traffic flow from Behala towards central Kolkata was not hindered due to metro constructions on D H Road between Mominpore and Mayurbhanj, a stretch that was often jammed, especially in the evenings.

“We have not fixed any time. We are allowing both-way traffic till the queue of cars crosses the Jai Hind Bridge. We then start diversions till the office-time pressure gets over,” said an officer.
