• Cyber fraudster had China & Cambodia links

  • Kolkata: Days after the detective department arrested one Bikram Basak for inducement of investing with small amounts in stock trading with a false promise of higher returns, cops have now come to know that he was part of a gang that allegedly operates from China and has deep connections with Cambodia, said sources. The total fraud committed by the accused here in Kolkata is estimated to be around Rs 1.4 crore.

    “Basak induced victims by asking them to invest small amounts in stock trading with a false promise of higher returns.He asked people to invest through fake aps provided to him from people based in China,” said an investigating officer. “The victim was made to transfer an amount of Rs. 1,90,000 to an account,” he added .

    During interrogation the accused person revealed that he was in contact with multiple persons from China and Cambodia through WhatsApp since last one year. The person from China instructed him to withdraw the money that was cheated from a particular bank account in cash and purchase USDT in lieu of that amount.
