Kolkata: Kolkata Police, after MHA prod, have cautioned citizens to check the genuineness of the links they receive on SMS, asking them to pay a traffic fine.
A businessman from Mumbai had recently lost Rs 3 lakh after clicking on such a link. Police warned that the fake links closely resemble the original payment gateway. “For example, the original link reads: https://echalan.parivahan.gov.in and not https://echallanparivahan.in/,” said an officer.
An officer said, “The money paid on the fake links goes to the account of the accused.” —Dwaipayan Ghosh
