  • Arijit Singh BEHRAMPORE: A photograph of a Behrampore district judge with singer Arijit Singh at the court complex on Saturday would have hardly raised eyebrows, given the singer's legion of fans. But, it did. For, Arijit had not come to court as a singer, but to depose in a hearing against him in an 11-year-old case of wrongful restraint and causing hurt.

The district judge, Bhaskar Bhattacharya, was not hearing Arijit's case.It was being tried in a different court by Behrampore second judicial magistrate Nilanjan Moulik.

The singer, who now lives and works out of his Murshidabad home, was named in an FIR in 2013. He was charged with assaulting a mediaperson and booked under two sections of IPC --- 341 and 323, carrying a maximum jail term of one month and a year, respectively.

On Saturday, as the singer stepped into the court complex, news travelled fast. Lawyers and court clerks came to meet him. The district judge, an ardent fan, too, stood in the court corridor along with lawyers, clerks and even some families to meet Arijit and get a photograph clicked.
