Kolkata: Civic engineers on Wednesday threatened a protest after a team from KMC’s buildings department, including a woman assistant engineer, was allegedly harassed by local toughs in the presence of police when they went to Prince Rahimuddin Lane off Deshpran Sasmal Road to demolish an illegal construction. The civic officials had to call off the drive.Later, the engineers took up the matter with senior officials of the department and colleagues, and decided not to shoulder the responsibility of pulling down unauthorized structures from Thursday.
However, a senior official said the matter was resolved after talking to the engineers. “We will send a team to raze the building and seek assistance from Lalbazar,” an official said. The engineers recounted an incident in Entally, where rowdies had threatened to set the team on fire.
