  • Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday directed online appearance of the commissioner of school education, West Bengal Board of Secondary Education president and the West Bengal Central School Service Commission chairman on July 23 to explain to the court what steps they had taken to identify illegally appointed teachers drawing salary from the state exchequer.

They are members of the committee set up by the HC to identify illegally appointed teachers.

Justice Basu was dissatisfied with the report of the committee submitted to the court on Wednesday in which it could name only two “organizing teachers” drawing the salary of teachers.

Education department counsel Biswabrata Basu Mallick submitted to the court that the salary of Dinendranath Barman, an organizing teacher of an North Dinajpur school, had been discontinued in 1991, while the panel identified Bhabani Charan Srivastava, serving as organizing teacher. The education department counsel said some such appointments had been made following orders of the HC. Justice Basu pointed out that the committee report didn’t mention the HC orders based on which the appointments had been made.
