  • Kolkata: The state urban development and municipal affairs department has come up with a draft policy for signage, hoarding and outdoor advertising, specifying locations where outdoor advertising would not be allowed in the state.

The draft policy says ads won’t be allowed in national parks, district forests and water bodies, historical monuments, cremation grounds, graveyards, world heritage sites, areas classified as remnant endangered regional ecosystems and in religious places among others. The policy aims to strike a balance between road safety and enhancing the aesthetic appeal. “The visual clutter caused by excessive signage and outdoor ads has become a concern. It is crucial to maintain clear visibility and readability of traffic signs, signals, and road markings, essential for ensuring road safety,” says the draft policy. tnn
