  • Kolkata: Four hundred and thirteen officials from the land and land reforms department have been transferred over the past two days, said a senior Nabanna official on Wednesday.

The govt came up with the transfer list, which included 29 deputy directors and 179 special revenue officers, after chief minister Mamata Banerjee directed Vivek Kumar, the department’s new additional chief secretary, to take immediate steps and address the complaints of corruption in land-related matters, pouring in, particularly from BLLRO.

The chief minister, who heads the land department, during a meeting at Nabanna in end-June had expressed her displeasure over reports of encroachments on govt land, and had said a nexus with the officials allowed govt plots to be occupied illegally. Seeking a report on eviction from those plots, Banerjee had told officials to put up sign boards on all govt plots and upload photos of those plots on portals to stop their illegal transfer. She also directed the officials to ensure better services for citizens at the BLLRO.

“I am not saying all officers are corrupt but due to some of them, others also earn a bad name. But I will not spare the officials who are involved in corruption,” Banerjee had said at the meeting.
