  • Citing his complaint against Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Indira Mukherjee, West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose has asked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to submit a report on the actions taken against the two top cops.

“Upon the authority vested in the Hon’ble Governor under Article 167 of the Constitution of India, Honorable Chief Minister has been called upon to submit the report on the action taken against the Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kolkata on the report sent by Hon’ble Governor to the Government of India and the Hon’ble Chief Minister,” a statement issued by the Raj Bhavan read.

Late June, the Governor sent a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) accusing the two top officers of Kolkata Police of “functioning in a manner unbecoming of a public servant”.

The same report was sent to the West Bengal Government on July 4.
The Governor alleged that the two officers “tarnished” the office of the Governor through their actions, and ignored service rules.

The Governor’s report highlighted various incidents, including what he alleged as “promoting and encouraging concocted allegations” by a female employee of Raj Bhavan against the Governor.

On May 8, a woman staffer had accused Governor Bose of molestation inside Raj Bhavan, following which the Kolkata Police launched an inquiry into the incident.

In his report to the Centre, Governor Bose said that Kolkata Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and held media briefings on the alleged molestation issue “giving an impression that the Governor could face criminal charges”.

He also alleged that Kolkata Police thwarted the alleged victims of post-poll violence to meet him on June 13 despite permission from the raj Bhavan. It seemed that Kolkata Police defied Governor’s’ orders on June 13 to withdraw the police contingent from the Raj Bhavan premises, Bose alleged.

Governor C V Ananda Bose has asked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to submit a report on his demand for a CBI enquiry into the alleged assault and disrobing of a BJP worker in Cooch Behar and public flogging of a couple in Chopra in Uttar Dinajpur district.

“…violent incidents of disrobing a woman in public, public flogging of a couple and operation of kangaroo courts with no effective action by police,” Governor Bose posted on X on Tuesday evening.
