  • Kolkata: South-Eastern Railway organized buses for ferrying passengers of four trains from Santragachhi to Howrah in the wee hours of Thursday. These trains are currently being terminated at Santragachhi instead of Howrah because of the ongoing development work at Howrah station yard.

On Wednesday, in a report titled, “Passengers were left in dark after Howrah-bound train ends journey at Santragachhi station”, TOI described the plight of hundreds of passengers travelling on the 12022 Barbil-Howrah Janshatabdi Express on Sunday and how they were left in the lurch as the train, already running later by more than three-and-a-half hours, terminated at Santragachhi station at midnight, instead of Howrah station, the scheduled destination.

Reacting to the TOI report, South-Eastern Railway (SER) organized three buses to pick up all those who had arrived on board the 12022 Barbil-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express, the 12840 MGR-Chennai Central Howrah Mail, the 22898 Digha-Howrah Kandari Express and the 12664 Tiruchirapalli-Howrah Express which were terminated at Santragachhi instead of Howrah between 12.20am and 4.40am on Thursday.

SER CPRO Om Prakash Charan said, “Convenience of passengers is always the top priority of South-Eastern Railway. We are glad to have had the opportunity to show it.”

“Around 700 passengers were transported from Santragachhi to Howrah late on Wednesday night. They reached Howrah in a very short time, conveniently and safely,” an SER spokesperson said. Six railway officials were deployed to supervise the bus trips and ensure that the passengers boarded and reached Howrah safely, the spokesperson added.
