  • TMC supporters celebrate as party candidate Supti Pandey from Maniktala (Kolkata) constituency won in assembly bypoll. NEW DELHI: The INDIA alliance emerged victorious in 10 assembly constituencies, while the BJP secured 2 seats. Along with an Independent candidate, these wins were part of the ongoing vote counting for the recent by-elections.

    The by-elections, conducted on Wednesday, involved 13 assembly seats across seven states: Punjab (1), Himachal Pradesh (3), Uttarakhand (2), West Bengal (4), Madhya Pradesh (1), Bihar (1), and Tamil Nadu (1).

    The Congress, TMC, AAP and DMK are among the INDIA bloc parties that participated in these bypolls by nominating their candidates.

    West Bengal assembly bypoll:

    In the West Bengal bypolls held on July 10, TMC candidate Krishna Kalyani emerged victorious in the Raiganj assembly seat, securing a margin of over 50,000 votes against his closest competitor, BJP's Manas Kumar Ghosh.

    In the Bagda assembly seat of North 24 Parganas district, TMC's Madhuparna Thakur, the daughter of TMC Rajya Sabha MP and Matua leader Mamatabala Thakur, defeated BJP's Binay Kumar Biswas by a margin of 33,455 votes.

    TMC candidate Supti Pandey emerged victorious in the Maniktala (Kolkata) assembly seat against her nearest rival Kalyan Chaubey of the BJP.

    In the Ranaghat Dakshin assembly seat of North 24 Parganas district, Mukut Mani Adhikari from TMC won over BJP's Manoj Kumar Biswas.

    Punjab assembly bypoll:

    In the Jalandhar West constituency of Punjab, Mohinder Bhagat, representing the state's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), clinched the seat by securing a convincing victory over his closest competitor, BJP candidate Sheetal Angural, with a margin of 37,325 votes. The AAP candidate garnered 55,246 votes, while Angural managed to secure 17,921 votes. Surinder Kaur of the Congress party finished third, receiving 16,757 votes.

    Bhagat, who was previously associated with the BJP, joined the AAP during the 2023 parliamentary by-election. His father, Chunni Lal, had a successful political career as a BJP minister, winning from the constituency three times, including when it was known as Jalandhar South before the delimitation process.

    Himachal Pradesh assembly bypoll:

    In Himachal Pradesh, Kamlesh Thakur, the wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Congress candidate, secured victory in the Dehra assembly seat, defeating BJP's Hoshiyar Singh by a margin of 9,399 votes.

    Similarly, in Nalagarh, Hardeep Singh Bawa of the Congress emerged victorious against BJP's KL Thakur, winning by a substantial margin of 25,618 votes.

    However, the BJP managed to retain the Hamirpur seat, with its candidate Ashish Sharma garnering 27,041 votes, while Congress' Pushpinder Verma received 25,470 votes, as per the official website.

    Uttarakhand assembly bypoll:

    In Uttarakhand, Congress candidate Lakhpat Singh Butola secured victory in Badrinath assembly seat, defeating BJP's Rajendra Bhandari.

    In Manglaur assembly seat of Uttarakhand, Qazi Nizamuddin of the Congress emerged victorious against BJP's Kartar Singh Bhadana.

    Madhya Pradesh assembly bypoll:

    In the Amarwada bypoll in Madhya Pradesh, BJP candidate Kamlesh Shah emerged victorious, defeating Congress candidate Dhiren Shah Inavati by a margin of 3,252 votes.

    Tamil Nadu assembly bypoll:

    In Tamil Nadu, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's (DMK) Anniyur Siva secured victory over his nearest rival PMK's Anbumani C in the Vikravandi assembly seat.

    Bihar assembly bypoll:

    In Bihar's Purnea district, Independent candidate Shankar Singh won the Rupauli assembly bypoll in Purnea district with a margin of 8,204 votes over JD(U) candidate Kaladhar Mandal.
