  • Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee (Pic credit: AFP) KOLKATA: Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated and thanked the people, as Trinamool won all four assembly seats where bypolls were held on July 10. "Trinamool had a thumping victory."

She said it is a major political victory for Trinamool as other than Maniktala all three were won by the BJP in last assembly polls and even in the recently held Lok Sabha polls."But in the bypoll all four seats are with Trinamool," the CM said after returning to the city from Mumbai after attending the marriage ceremony of Anant Ambani.

The CM said that for two years polls were not allowed to be held at Maniktala, after the demise of Sadhan Pande in February 2022 and now it is a major win for Trinamool. Pande's wife Supti won by a margin of over 62000 votes.

"Krishna Kalyani had contested the Raiganj LS seat, but lost due to an understanding between BJP and Congress. So I had told him that as earlier you were an MLA so you will be an MLA and now he is a Trinamool MLA, while in 2021 he was a BJP MLA." Even she said that Mukut Mani Adhikari was a BJP MLA of Ranaghat South in 2021 and now he had won as Trinamool MLA from the same seat. The CM added that Adhikari lost the Ranaghat LS seat due to constant barrage of misinformation. "I am happy that both Kalyani and Adhikari won as Trinamool MLAs now."

The CM said, "People supported us overwhelmingly. So our social responsibility is there to serve them, The more we stand by the people we will garner more support and people replied against all propaganda and misinformation."'

She said that the Bagda seat got the youngest MLA -- as RS MP Mamata Bala Thakur's daughter Madhuparna had won who is 25 years old. "All these three seats were BJP both in the assembly as well as they had a margin in the recent LS polls so it is a big win for us. We will celebrate the victory of these assembly bypolls as well as that of the LS polls on July 21. I congratulate and thank the people. This is the victory of the people."

"We are a political party and to do social work is our duty. The more we work for the people and stand by the people, people will trust and give us support. The trend is very clear it is not in favour of NDA. BJP has lost."
