  • Kolkata: Jadavpur University’s pharmaceutical technology department has written to the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board and director of technical education, department of higher education, pointing out that students are not being able to choose JU’s pharmacy course as their choice during the WBJEE e-counselling.

The professors of the department have raised concerns.

Head of pharmaceutical technology department, Amalesh Samanta, said, “The admission to the UG pharmacy in JU has always been from the general merit rank of the engineering Joint Entrance Examination and not from the pharmacy merit rank.”

He added that if the matter was not resolved they would not be able to get students with good rankings. “Generally, we get students ranking within 10,000. But if JU’s pharmacy option is not made available, we will get students with ranks more than 50,000,” Samanta said.

Board sources said there are at least 35 colleges, including private and government, where the admission to pharmacy courses has not started because the higher education department has not sent the seat matrix of pharmacy.

A senior official of the higher education department said they were looking into the matter.
