Kolkata: The cyber cell of the detective department cracked an online investment fraud worth over Rs 1 crore by arresting two persons.
This is the third time in less than a week where recoveries in online crimes above Rs 1 crore have been made.
According to additional CP (I) Murlidhar Sharma, the accused created fake websites and apps by using the name of reputed overseas companies.They used the same to convince the complainant to invest money for gold trading, assuring him of high returns and thereby duped the complainant of Rs 1,03,52,570 in April earlier this year. Cops first arrested one Md Qayamuddin from Tiljala area on July 3.
This accused operated the account wherein Rs 10.4 lakh of the victim was routed, and transactions of worth another Rs 50 lakh took place from it. His interrogation led to the arrest of Diptangshu Gupta, the alleged leader of the gang, on Friday cops said.
