• Biker without helmet killed in AJC Bose Rd flyover accident

  • Kolkata: A 19-year-old helmetless biker died after he lost control over the two-wheeler and rammed a median divider on the Police Training School (PTS)-bound ramp of AJC Bose Road flyover around 12.32 am on Sunday.

    The deceased, Md Hussain, a resident of Kundalbagan in Howrah’s Jaluapara, was admitted to SSKM Hospital in a critical state. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 4.30am, according to cops from Hastings police station.

    Another youth of the same age, Raju Rao, a resident of Jaluapara, who was riding pillion on the bike, sustained serious injuries in the accident.He, too, was riding the bike without helmet, said an officer. He is undergoing treatment for his injuries at the trauma care unit of the hospital. Cops have seized the bike involved in the accident.

    In a separate accident that took place sometime later in the wee hours of Sunday, a biker and his pillion rider were injured when their two-wheeler collided with a goods vehicle at College Street near Bowbazar crossing. The goods vehicle’s driver sped away after the accident, which occurred around 4.45 am.

    The biker, Tanmoy Dolui (23) and his pillion rider, Priyanka Moni (27), both residents of P C Boral Street, were not wearing helmets, said the police. Cops said the biker, who sustained grievous injuries, was initially taken to SSKM Hospital but later shifted to the Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata at Mallick Bazar.

    The woman, who was riding pillion on the bike, was taken to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. She was later discharged after treatment.
